The one on the east side offers a free parking service for those with parking cards on the weekends. The parking service is available on the west side, on condition that you park there within half an hour. Today is Saturday, so I suggest you go to the east parking lot. Again, this is a Red Ford Taurus. The license plate number is 15FTU. If it is still blocking the entrance ten minutes from now, I am afraid we will have no choice but to call the service company and have it removed. So please, will the owner of this Red Ford Taurus move your car immediately?

After men landed on the moon in 1969, astronauts around the world had a problem — there were no other places they could go! Even today, the other planets are still too far away for astronauts to fly to. So, while rockets and robots can go to other planets, flights with astronauts have to stay closer to home, at least for the time being.

Therefore, since visiting the manned space programs have turned their attention to solving problems related to living and working in space.

For the past decade, NASA’s manned space exploration program has focused on the space shuttle program. During that time, NASA operated three space shuttles: Discovery Atlantis, and Endeavor. Unfortunately, two of NASA’s shuttles, Challenger and Columbia were lost through accidents.

Seven astronauts died in each accident. While the shuttle program was going on, the shuttles flew over 120 missions. These missions included putting satellites into orbit, photographing the earth, studying space, conducting experiments related to working in space, and connecting with various manned space stations in orbit. Today, however, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor are no longer being flown. NASA retired its space shuttle program in 2011.

As well as putting rockets and space shuttles into orbit, several space stations have been put into orbit. In 1986, the Soviet Union launched the Mir space station. Mir stayed in orbit until March 23,2001. Over that time,104 astronauts visited the station to stay for various lengths of time.

The person who has spent the longest in space so far is Russian astronaut Sergei Krikalev Working aboard Mir and flying in other missions, Mr. Krikalev lived and worked in space for a total of 803 days,9 hours, and 39 minutes. That is more than two years in space.

Another space station, the International Space Station (ISS), is still in orbit today. The first part of this space station was launched in 1998.NASA added the final section to the ISS in 2010, officially completing the space station. In the long run, it is predicted that research done aboard the ISS will help scientists learn about living and working in space.

24What is the best title for the passage?

ASergei Krikalev-An Amazing Astronaut BThe Past and Future of Space Travel

CSpace Cities of the Future       DLiving and Working on the International Space Station

25According to the passage, why are astronauts unable to travel to other planets now?

AThere are not enough space shuttles. BThere have been too many rocket accidents.

CThere are too many problems here on Earth. DThe journey would take too long for a person.

26How many space shuttle astronauts have been killed in accidents?

A2. B7. C14. D120.

27What is NOT true about Sergei Krikaley?

AHe is an astronaut from Russia. BHe spent more than two years aboard Mir.

CHe has been on many space missions. DHe has spent more time in space than anyone else.

24B     25D      26C      27B

根據第三段中“For the past decade, NASA’s manned space exploration program has focused on the space shuttle program.(在過去的十年里,美國宇航局的載人太空探索計劃一直專注于航天飛機計劃)”以及最后一段中“In the long run, it is predicted that research done aboard the ISS will help scientists learn about living and working in space. (從長遠來看,據預測,在國際空間站上進行的研究將有助于科學家了解太空生活和工作)”結合文章主要介紹了人類以往的載人航天計劃,出現的問題以及未來太空探索的方向??芍?,B選項太空旅行的過去和未來最符合文章標題。故選B。

25.細節理解題。根據第一段中“Even today, the other planets are still too far away for astronauts to fly to. So, while rockets and robots can go to other planets, flights with astronauts have to stay closer to home, at least for the time being.(即使在今天,其他行星對宇航員來說仍然太遠了。所以,雖然火箭和機器人可以去其他星球,但宇航員的飛行必須待在離家更近的地方,至少目前是這樣)”可知,現在宇航員不能去其他星球旅行是因為旅程對一個人來說太長了。故選D。

26.細節理解題。根據第三段中“Unfortunately, two of NASA’s shuttles, Challenger and Columbia were lost through accidents.(不幸的是,美國宇航局的兩架航天飛機挑戰者號和哥倫比亞號在事故中失蹤)”以及第四段中“Seven astronauts died in each accident.(每次事故都有7名宇航員死亡)”可知,有14名航天飛機的宇航員在事故中喪生。故選C。

根據倒數第二段“The person who has spent the longest in space so far is Russian astronaut Sergei Krikalev Working aboard Mir and flying in other missions, Mr. Krikalev lived and worked in space for a total of 803 days, 9 hours, and 39 minutes. That is more than two years in space.(迄今為止,在太空中停留時間最長的人是俄羅斯宇航員Sergei Krikalev,他在和平號空間站工作并執行其他任務,克里卡列夫在太空中生活和工作了8039小時39分鐘。這在太空中是兩年多的時間)”可知,Sergei Krikaley在太空中待了兩年多,所以B選項他在和平號上呆了兩年多不正確,在太空中不等于在和平號上。故選B。

C

The term “crop circle” or “circles” was created by a researcher, Colin Andrews, to describe the strange circles and complex geometries(復雜的幾何圖形). He has researched what has shown up in fields of wheat, barley, rye, corn, soy beans and other crops for years.

There are numerous theories(理論)that have been given to explain crop circles of unknown origin(起源). It is notable for most people that when crop circles have been made by human hands, the plants themselves are damaged. But the plants in the stricken area continue to grow and ripen, and none of the stalks are broken nor the seed heads crushed.

Another strange thing about these particular types of crop circles is that the genetic(基因的)structure of the plants themselves has been changed. This does not happen to the crop circles that have proven to be the work of pranksters

In 1966, in the small town of Tully Queensland, Australia, one of the most famous accounts of a UFO, as well as the possible link to crop circles, was given. A farmer was working on his farm and said that he saw a saucer-shaped craft (飛行器)fly 30 or 40 feet above a swamp (沼澤地)and then fly away at extremely high speed. The farmer decided to look into the area where he thought the craft had been hovering (盤旋)and he found the plants there intricately woven (雜亂地編織) in a clockwise pattern.

The crop circle phenomenon (現象)became a very hot topic during the late 1980s. No less than 12,000 genuine crop circles have been discovered all cross the world. In countries like the former Soviet Union, the UK, Japan, the U. S. and Canada, this strange phenomenon continues to appear and baffle anyone who observes it because no rational explanation exists. In a wheat field in Monroe County, Tennessee, a pattern ranging about 150 feet in diameter(直徑)was discovered on May14, 2007. Captain Bryan Graves of the local sheriff’s department discovered it while flying.

The crop circle phenomenon has never stopped appearing across the world since it was discovered. Could it be that extraterrestrial (來自天外的)beings are trying to communicate with humans? If so, what is the message they are trying to send? The mystery continues.

28When it comes to crop circles, most people think ________.

AColin Andrews’ study deserves to be believed    Bits appearance has no relationship to humans

Cplants in the crop circle are easily damaged    Dthe phenomenon has only appeared in wheat field

29What did the farmer mentioned in Paragraph 4 think of the crop circle?

AHe thought it must be the work of pranksters.

BThe crop circle could change plants genes.

CHe believed the crop circle was made by a UFO.

DCrop circles would be popular among Australians.

30The underlined world “baffle” in Paragraph 5 is closest in meaning to “________”.

Aconfuse Bexcite Cupset Dsatisfy

31What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?

ABryan Graves plans to study extraterrestrial beings.

BCrop circles have continued to appear in the world.

CCrop circles are unlikely to be created by extraterrestrial beings.

DHumans can’t translate what extraterrestrial beings express.

根據第二段“It is notable for most people that when crop circles have been made by human hands, the plants themselves are damaged. But the plants in the stricken area continue to grow and ripen, and none of the stalks are broken nor the seed heads crushed.(值得注意的是,對于大多數人來說,當麥田怪圈是由人的手做出來的時候,植物本身就受到了損害。但是受災地區的植物繼續生長和成熟,沒有一根莖被折斷,也沒有一顆種子被壓碎。)”可知,人們認為如果是人為的,植物本身會有損害,然而事實上麥田怪圈內植物并沒有損害,也就說明大多數人認為不是人為現象,它的出現和人類沒有關系。故選B。

29.推理判斷題。根據第四段“The farmer decided to look into the area where he thought the craft had been hovering (盤旋)and he found the plants there intricately woven (雜亂地編織) in a clockwise pattern.(農夫決定去那個他認為是飛行器盤旋過的地方看看,他發現那里的植物以順時針方向錯綜復雜地編織而成。)”

根據第五段劃線詞前半句“In countries like the former Soviet Union, the UK, Japan, the U. S. and Canada, this strange phenomenon continues to appear(在前蘇聯、英國、日本、美國和加拿大等國家,這種奇怪的現象不斷出現)”和后半句“because no rational explanation exists.(因為沒有合理的解釋存在。)” 故選A。

根據最后一段“The crop circle phenomenon has never stopped appearing across the world since it was discovered.(自麥田怪圈被發現以來,它從未停止在世界各地出現。)”

D

Believe it or not, humans have been in debt to Earth Overshoot Day this month. Earth Overshoot Day fell on August 8th. As of that day, we had used as much from nature in 2016 as our planet can provide in a whole year. In other words, we have run out of this year's “ecological budget”, and for the rest of the year we'll be eating into our “savings”.

Global Footprint Network has been watching Earth Overshoot Day since 1971. This year, the day came five days earlier than it did last year (Aug.13th), 11 days earlier than the year before last year(Aug.19th) and is the earliest date yet.

Global Footprint Network said that humans now use 1.6 Earths' worth of crops, forest, livestock, energy and other resources every year. By the 2030s we will be using more than two Earths' worth of resources every year. The situation is more and more serious and the world needs to find a better balance in how to use the Earth's resources.

Overshoot Day is a red light warning of trouble ahead. “That is, we're using up what our planet does for us, so year after year, there is less for us to use, ” Stuart Pimm, an American professor of ecology, explained. “Less forest, fewer fish in the ocean, and less productive land.” Two of the main causes are over-population and pollution.

Small actions make a big difference and all of us play an important role in creating   a better world where we live. Even a few simple changes around our home can reduce waste, from taking a shower instead of a bath to using our own reusable bags at a store instead of ones that are made of plastics. In this way we can reduce waste and pollution. Let's start today to live greener in no time.

32What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?

AEarth Overshoot Day is coming earlier and earlier.

BEarth Overshoot Day falls on Aug.19th.

CHumans will have to spend more money for the rest of the year.

DHumans have used as many resources this year as we did last year.

33According to Global Footprint Network, which of the following is TRUE?

ABy the 2030s there will be no resources left on Earth.

BHumans need to find better ways to use resources properly.

CHumans use more than 1.6 Earths' worth of resources every year.

DAug. 13th is the earliest date of Earth Overshoot Day since 1971.

34Which one can't help us reduce waste?

ATaking a shower. BTaking a bath.

CUsing reusable bags. DRecycling waste water.

35Which can be the best title for the passage?

ALiving a Saving Life BAug.8th—an Important Day

CSmall Actions Make a Big Difference DEating up Our Planet

36.根據后一句“But for many of us, the process is difficult and requires courage.”(但對我們很多人來說,這個過程是艱難的,需要勇氣。)可知此處應該與后一句相反,E項中“easy”對應后一句“difficult”,“Making new friends”對應“the process”,“for some people”對應“for many of us”,E項意思對一些人來說,結交新朋友很容易。

37.根據后一句“You can always start the conversation.”

根據“these interests always bring you and your friend together”可知同樣的興趣愛好總是讓你和你的朋友走到一起,所以這一部分主要是說和朋友一塊做一些事,故選B項。

39.根據“try not to press your new friend with calls, messages or visits as this would likely wear him or her out and finally you may lose your friend.”

40.根據“allow your friends to be themselves”“Try not to change them from who they are to what you want them to be.”

It seemed I’d done everything I’d ever wanted to do in my life, but I had one regret. I was born in 1898, the oldest of five kids. Papa couldn’t spare me to go to school, so I worked in the fields with him till I was 21 years old.

Everywhere I went, I learned some hard lessons about what happens to a man who even can’t read the alphabet. People cheat you out of wages. They sell you a ticket to one city, take your money and hand you a ticket to somewhere else.

By 1928, I’d been wandering for nine years. I met a woman named Elzenia. We fell in love, married and moved to Dallas, where I got work fixing roads for the city. When Amelia, the oldest of our seven children, first went to school, I took my wife aside. “Elzenia,” I said. “I don’t want the kids to know I can’t read or write.”

In 1938, one day my boss called me in. “George,” he said. “No one knows those machines like you do. I’d like to promote you.” But my thrill and surprise were cut short when he said, “Fill out this application and we’ll get you a raise.” I couldn’t admit the truth. I thanked him and walked out of his office. I did stay right where I was, until I turned 65 and my boss made me retire. But I didn’t stop working. For the next 25 years, I lived a happy life, but it still seemed to me like something was missing.

A young fellow handed me a piece of paper. It’s information about adult education classes. People can learn to read and write. Now I’m 102. I thought of my friends and neighbours and what they might think if they found out I couldn’t read. After all these years, my secret would be out. But all my life I’ve wanted to read. It was high time for action.

注意:

Paragraph 1

Paragraph 2

I’m still going to school.___________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Paragraph 1

The young man drove me to a huge building and led me into a spacious classroom, which was crowded with elderly people like me. Through chatting, I learned that they had all been longing to read and write but never had the chance to go to school. As the bell rang, in came the teacher, a woman well past forty. After a warm and brief greeting, we started our lesson. First we learned to read the alphabet and though I made mistakes at times, no one laughed at me. Everyone helped each other with open-hearted enjoyment.

Paragraph 2

I’m still going to school. Though faced with the most challenging event of my life, I’m full of courage and confidence. With the generous help of my teacher, friends and my children, I have made huge progress in study. Now I’m never shy about admitting the truth that once I was not able to read and write at all. Besides, I’m eager to encourage more elderly people to attend adult education classes because it’s never too late to learn.
